International Women’s Day is approaching fast (8th March). The day that celebrates womanhood is a reminder to all of us that women are showing their prowess in all sectors of economy. They are rubbing shoulders with men in all industries be it entertainment, hospitality, education, banking, finance, retail, fashion, travel, and even real estate. Yes, you look anywhere, and you will find that women, with their multitasking capabilities, are today standing taller than men.

The world of real estate, which was considered a fiefdom of men only for decades, is now seeing an equal representation by women. There was a time when women could not enter this field (they needed a man as co-signer to buy real estate). Today, women outnumber men 2:1 as more and more female real estate agents are writing success stories with their sheer will, hard, work, and dedication. Their success in real estate is encouraging a large number of ladies to follow in their footsteps.

Women entrepreneurs have proved that anything is possible if a lady has a passion and she is willing to overcome hurdles placed in her path. It is no easy job to fight stereotypes and social norms while at the same time managing the affairs of a family. But women entrepreneurs around the world have proved that no glass ceiling or gender bias can stop them from charting their own path. One can see these bold and fearless women chartering territories that were once considered male bastions. Women entrepreneurs are not just running highly successful business ventures but also generating employment for lots of other men and women. They are basking in their moment of glory and their success has a multiplying effect on other women in the society.

Anita Roddick, the famous British businesswoman and human rights activist, once said, ‘whatever you do, be different’. The can be no better advice for a woman entrepreneur. If you are different, you will stand out.

Maya Angelou, another famous woman entrepreneur who was a poet, singer, and rights activist, once said,’ I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life is a bitch. You have got to go out and kick ass.’

Women entrepreneurs not only fuel economic growth but they also bring about a social change. The break many social norms and taboos and encourage other girls to break free from the invisible fetters that are placed upon women by the societies and cultures across the world.

Women bring to the table their skill to strike a balance between work and wellness. Their inherent ability of multitasking helps them in succeeding in fields where it was once inconceivable to visualize women in the past. Women today have a new found confidence that is helping them in succeeding in diverse sectors of economy.
